The number of visible spaces for sex work, particularly street prostitution, has significantly declined in the Netherlands, with around a third of windows disappearing since 2010 due to municipal closures related to crime and neighborhood improvement plans. This shift has led to increased danger for sex workers, who often avoid reporting violence or harassment as they work from home or in less supervised environments.
