Starting today, the Dutch government is initiating a major refund operation for individuals who may have overpaid wealth tax (box 3) since 2017, following a ruling by the Supreme Court that found the tax calculation method unfair. The tax authorities will provide a form for taxpayers to claim refunds based on their actual returns, potentially affecting over half a million people and resulting in an estimated loss of 6.4 billion euros for the government.
